Stork Brothers of New Ulm Minnesota won a $2120 judgment against Larson Fruit and Produce Company in Municipal Court for loss on 400 cases of eggs sold in November 1925. Chicago February 17 The local vegetable market shows steady movement overall with heavy supplies. California and Texas crates dominate the listings. prices vary by item from celery at 3 6 to lettuce and cauliflower slipping amid slow demand. beans and peppers hold though with ample stock.
Chicago buyers reported firmer cabbage prices this week with dealers offering around $12 a ton f. o. b. Wisconsin on Wednesday. Texas demand dwindled and old cabbage faced less competition while overall market activity rose about $1 per ton from the prior week.
Movement faced liberal supply with slow sales across boxes and crates. Louisianas and Texas offerings varied from 1.15 to 7.50 per unit, spinach and tomatoes firm or lower in a slow market, Cuban Florida crates and Californias crates priced within a wide range, with heavy supply and fluctuating demand across each item.
Chicago Feb 17 The Chicago Potato Exchange begins operations this week on South Water Market under W W Summers with about 40 years of market experience. Peter J Gavin, with 25 years in the trade, is a partner. Offices are at 1425 Solon Place. The firm will operate on commission and brokerage handling carrots potatoes onions cabbage melons apples and other staple produce.
The Chicago onion market showed strength with outside demand. Prices advanced about 10 cents with red and yellow stock selling around 2.25 to 2.40 per cwt at loading points. Operators expect stock to be cleared at current or higher levels.
Earl Knowles, manager in Chicago for Leonard Crosset Riley, married Lucille Thompson of Waterloo Iowa on Tuesday afternoon. The ceremony was small and private with close friends in attendance. The couple will leave Monday for a brief honeymoon and plan to reside in Chicago afterward.
Jack Lewis resigns from Epstein Brothers to start Jack Lewis, Inc. in Rhinelander. His brother Mike Lewis, formerly of Detroit, joins as a member. The firm will handle a general line of fruits and vegetables.
The Chicago potato market shows a bullish trend with prices rising to as high as 1.85 for No 1 round whites amid moderate receipts. Western states feel stronger after Idaho Chamber of Commerce committee action. On Wednesday 279 cars were on track, down 30 from Tuesday, with brisk trading and most cars broken late.
