Valley growers and shippers clash over cabbage price
In San Benito Texas on January 31, cabbage shippers and Tri County Growers Association members clashed over price. The group had set a $12.50 per ton minimum for cabbage at the shipping shed, but recent demand slump pushed some firms to offer $10 per ton. Growers urged boycott against buyers paying less, while shippers argued $10 is the workable ceiling given Florida shipments and eastern demand. Disputes loom as cold, wet weather slows cutting.
