Potatoes May Be Made a Basic AAA Commodity
Grand Rapids Mich Dec 28 Congressman Prentiss M Brown of St Ignace Democrat says he will sponsor an amendment to the AAA in the next Congress to make potatoes a basic commodity and eligible for benefits. He notes growers in Maine Michigan and other states favor such aid, while farm leaders in the potato belt weigh the change versus acreage reductions, with talks of prohibiting sale of No 2 potatoes during overproduction. Michigan crop reports show 1934 production at about 34.304 million bushels, down from November estimates and well above last year’s 20.67 million bushels.
