Changes Wanted in Michigan Apple and Grape Grading Laws
Grand Rapids December 26 Amendments to the Michigan apple and grape grading laws will be asked of the Legislature in January. Apple growers and shippers seek a simplified uniform A grade with size variations and a 2% inch minimum for some varieties. Proposals include uniform packs by size and revised A grade ranges to compete with Western fruit. The draft amendment lists committee members led by G E Prater. Grape talks favor limiting four quart baskets to fancy grapes and propose two grades for jumbo baskets. A drafting committee may meet soon in Paw Paw Lawton or Benton Harbor.

Plaintiffs Challenge Sapiro Marketing Law In Minnesota
A Ramsey county district court action by Louis Schwartz, an egg dealer, seeks to nullify sections 26 and 27 of Minnesota 1923 Co-ops law known as the Sapiro law. It argues independent buyers may purchase from members who voluntarily offer products even if contracts exist with co-ops. The brief asserts the law enforces a monopoly restraint on trade and cites Wisconsin and other cases to urge enjoining penalties against the plaintiff for buying from non-Co-op sellers.
