The National League of Commission Merchants announces its thirty third annual convention will be held January 18 to 16 1925 in Louisville Kentucky. Delegates are urged to participate actively wire for hotel reservations and register at the Brown hotel.

Apple Holdings in Northwest Below Year Ago

Seattle December reports show Washington apple shipments total 19 319 cars through December 22, well below last year's 29 193 cars. Wenatchee district has shipped 11 451 cars versus 13 327 last year, Yakima 4 742 versus about 9 000, with remaining stock under 4 000 nationwide and largely owned by Eastern dealers.

Onion Set Prices Show Strong Local Market Tone

Louisville Kentucky December 26 a small onion sets crop in this district and limited production elsewhere push prices higher. Farmers receive 2.20 dollars per bushel for colored sets about 2.40 for white sets which are scarce. Yellows and reds quote 2.75 for immediate delivery about 3.00 for February delivery while white sets carry no current price and remain firm.

Edwin T. Huston of Lockport New York cashed several worthless checks in Boston and New York firms claiming apples in storage. His photo appears in Boston rogues gallery and police list him as wanted in multiple cities for passing bad checks and other crimes. He used Lockport firm references and claimed extensive apple shipments.

Cold snap damages crops across Rio Grande Valley and Louisiana

A severe cold wave caused varying damage to crops in the Lower Rio Grande Valley including spinach peppers beans and tomatoes with major losses in cabbage and citrus plants. In Cameron county about 400 acres of tomatoes were reported a total loss while 1 025 acres of fall beans were lost. Louisiana saw no damage as warm rains followed the cold spell aiding truck crops and signaling expected heavy spring output.

Association Loses First Round in Suit Over Buying From Members

Fergus Falls Minn Dec 26 A Wheat Growers Association damage suit for 90000 against Campbell Elevator Co Wilkin County and manager J J McIntyre was dismissed by Judge Winherty in Breckenridge court. The association failed to appear to sustain charges and sought a continuation which was denied. The court voided a temporary injunction against the elevator restraining grain purchases from members under co op contracts. An appeal is expected. suits sought 25000 plus 5000 costs.

Edwards Brothers dealers in fruits and vegetables in Atlanta have liabilities estimated around 35000 with assets near 8000. Receiver Albert E Mayer of the Fourth National Bank building now administers the firm which organized in November 1919 and includes Allen Patrick M Cliff C Edwards and M A Palmour.

Pittsburgh Buyers Stung on Several Cars Christmas Trees

Pittsburgh authorities report a shady tree deal where Vermont and Massachusetts shippers sold trees in Pittsburgh for cash. Some buyers found 25 to 100 bundles short per car and many loads contained burnt or inferior trees. Dealers say 15 to 20 cars were affected. total receipts reached about 130 cars with spruce at 1.75 to 2 per bundle, balsam 2 to 2.50, and Washington pine 1.50 to 3 depending on size.

A Christmas Eve and Christmas night freeze brought temperatures down to 23 27 degrees across California causing likely slight damage to citrus in the Los Angeles Riverside Orange and San Bernardino counties.
