Washington D C Dec 18 There is little chance the McKellar Cold Storage Bill will be taken up this session as the House faces a crowded program. The subcommittee on interstate and foreign commerce weighs merits and weaknesses while leaders debate which bills to report. Rep Cullop now chairs the subcommittee and pledges hearings at any time, easing passage fears, while Rep Covington previously blocked effort, saying it would wreck many industries. Opponents led by Rep Thacher warn the fish storage limits could devastate New England blue fish and mackerel industries and affect bait supplies.
In Chicago on December 16, orange demand cooled due to extreme cold. Prices for Good Novels and Florida varieties dipped, with Florida Navels bidding around 32.25 per box.
