In Sherman Texas on March 22 Houston Holt shot Howell in a Denton county office after luring him into a closed room. Three shots were fired and Holt fled. Howell's body was later found in the office with three bullet wounds.
In Cincinnati on March 22 all women held on suspicion of involvement in Harry Baldwin’s murder were released as no evidence supported the charges. The coroner adjourned the inquest pending new developments after all clues failed to yield a solution.
A Tucson telegraph from Alton Sonora dated March 23 reports Gen Altimarime ordering disbandment of forces under Mariscal and peaceful recognition of the Serna government. A Palma courier notes Serna to enter Hermosillo with 600 nationals and 300 volunteers, showing Diaz backing Serna’s revolution in Sonora.
London reports Lord Tansdowne’s motion of censure over the Zulu war failed 156 to 61. Other dispatches note the Liverpool council backing international remonetization of silver, Mukhtar Pasha seeking 40 000 men for Epirus and Thessaly, and various European incidents from Moscow arrests to floods endangering 12 000 lives in Lungary.
