Telegraph boy bears news of his father’s death

In Yonkers New York on September 20 telegraph messenger Thomas Hogan delivered a telegram announcing his father’s death to his mother. Mrs Hogan collapsed but the boy, who had his mother’s signed receipt, carried on to his office.

Bootleggers Shoot Down Oklahoma Sheriff and Deputy

Tulsa Oklahoma September 20 Deputy Sheriff Searr was killed and Sheriff Salders wounded when bootleggers fired on them after a wagon load of liquor was confiscated. Officers arrested the wagon crew and a skirmish left John Bitter wounded and captured. A nearby Kansas case yesterday saw Federal Officer Bowman killed.

Aviator Blair Dies In Exhibition Fall

SHIENANDOAH Iowa September 20 Aviator Russell Blair of Kansas City was killed this afternoon when he fell thirty feet during an exhibition flight. He had just completed a flight and landed away from the crowd. As he attempted to rise the aircraft hit an air current and overturned Blair was crushed beneath the engine in the wreckage.

Must Kiss Wife Twice Each Day Man Given Parole

In Brooklyn on September 20 Herman Dunker aged sixty three is ordered by Magistrate Naumer to kiss his wife at least twice daily for seven years or for life. Dunker praised as a good fellow despite being a grouch and reacted with affection as his wife and he shared kisses in court.

Mayor orders fences around coal cars removed

The Wyoming Fuel & Feed Company fences around coal car strings on Reed Street were ordered down by Mayor Bresnahen. Officials say the barriers blocked wagon traffic and crossings, while company reps insist the fences protected thousands of dollars worth of coal from theft. The mayor demanded removal.

Rebels Within Striking Distance Of Agua Prieta

Seventeen hundred rebels are within striking distance of Agua Prieta opposite Douglas. Rojas, the rebel commander, says he expects 2400 troops to take the town soon while Salazar attacks San Joaquin Ranch and is repulsed. Heavy losses are reported on both sides.

Two Murders Reported In Wyoming Tragedies

Two deaths in Wyoming are reported as murders or possible murders. Thomas Wood was found near a railroad near Fossil with a head wound. Coroner T B Carnahan held an inquest, verdict unknown. J W DeFord was killed in Big Piney in self defense by W G Heitz owner of the Big Piney hotel after a confrontation following drinking and searching for a man named Hahn.

Salvation Army Leader Praised By Captain Wolfe

Staff Captain J. M. Wolfe arrives in Cheyenne praising William Bramwell Booth as the new Salvation Army leader following his father’s death in London. Wolfe expects Booth to mobilize followers more effectively and continue campaigns along the Pacific coast before returning west in a week.
