Democratic state convention adopts reform platform

The Wyoming Democratic state convention met after a long recess to hear reports from the platform committee. Temporary officers were elected with Judge Metz as temporary chair and C. L. Bidon as temporary secretary. A heated debate settled on a platform favoring initiative referenda and recall, anti corruption measures, non-partisan public institutions, eight hour day, a labor commissioner, and state control of natural resources.

City Council approves 1910 tax rate and fees

The council met last night and fixed the 1910 tax rate at 4 mills, nine tenths higher than last year’s assessment. Increase funds support bond issues, with two tenths to general fund and one tenth to street and alley. Other ordinances place electrical work under city engineer and grant the fire chief full supervision of gasoline lighting plants.

Raid on Sheep Camp Sparks Long Local History

Mysterious raid on a sheep camp near Edgmont, DA, a year ago left the herd herder dead and the wagon burned. Investigators linked Lambert and associates to the blaze and to prior killings. One Killed One Injured In Bad Wreck Near Royal Gorge

A Denver & Rio Grande freight train wreck near the Royal Gorge left one brakeman dead and one engineer seriously injured. Fireman R J Beecher escaped unharmed after jumping from the cab as the engine toppled into the Arkansas river. cause believed spreading rails. The wreck occurred shortly after 7 am and the train carried 34 loaded cars.

Margia Fuller a small nine teen year old swimmer aided by Dr J K Irwin of Verona who was drowning when their canoe tipped in the Allegheny river. Irwin a famed canoeist could not swim and was rescued after the mishap. The incident followed an invitation for a canoe ride. Continued on page 8.

Vaudeville Offer For Cannon Reported From Toledo

Chester Sargent of the Arcade theatre in Toledo wired an offer of 3000 dollars a week for ten weeks to Uncle Joe Cannon in Danville Illinois. The proposal includes a 12 minute daily talk on any subject with optional stories and claims backing from New York theatrical interests. In Pueblo a burglary occurred at J W Pierce home with silverware and jewelry stolen.

Fatally Shot While Hunting At Upton Ranch

A Wyoming state official, Commissioner A. M. Chapman, accidentally shot himself while loading a gun at his ranch near Upton. Wounded in the chest, he staggered toward a neighbor for help but collapsed. Three physicians arrived but could not save him. He had just married Ruth Parker a week earlier and taught at a local school.
