Atlantic transport Minnehaha, after 26 voyages New York to London with 16000 tons of munitions per trip, was sunk by a submarine near Ireland while returning with general cargo and a $30000 race horse. Fifty officers and crew were lost. the ship carried 140 crew and was built in Belfast in 1900. The vessel was escorted by destroyers in a six-ship group through the danger zone.
