Brander Matthews of Columbia University testified at the district court in Wakefield that Narragansett club on Clark's block was a gambling nuisance. He defined a joint as a place where men, drunk or sober, are steered to lose their money, recalling forty years of winnings in gambling venues.

County Fair at Wheatland Opens Today

Two provisional companies of the Eleventh Infantry from Fort Russell will march to Wheatland to join the Laramie county fair program opening today. Commanded by Captains McGrew and McConnell with Lieutenants Wilson, Van Horn and Conelly, the party totals 108 men and attendants. Cheyenne citizens plan to attend. the fair features agricultural shows, livestock exhibits, and contest programs praised as among the best.

Two men drown when boat sinks on Lake Meredith

In Sugar City near Lake Meredith two men, W. M. Henderson and Edward Stewart, drowned after their boat sprang a leak while fishing. Local searchers recovered the bodies in the evening, with the tragedy occurring near La Junta.

Corpse possession dispute delays burial in Denver

Hugh Boyle's body sits in Whitehead & Meyer funeral parlors as the Irish American Progressive Society and the undertakers feud over control and fees. A band of brigands disguised as passengers seized a Russian steamer south of Harbin Manehivla. They overpowered the crew and robbed passengers in a desperate fight. Riot in West Eighteenth district ends in injuries

Police quell a riot between soldiers and Mexicans in the Red Light district on West Eighteenth Street. At least three people, including two officers, are seriously injured. In Denver on September 13 Mary Way aged 60 was believed dead and placed in the coroner s wagon for the city morgue. Her son Henry Way and neighbor A Piccone found her apparently lifeless yet she revived in bed within minutes as heart action sped and she began breathing normally two hours later smiling and recovering fully.
