In Williamson West Virginia on August 31 a march of about 200 men toward the Howard Colliery and homes of Superintendent H V Ingham and L L Tinsley at Chattaroy was halted by eight U S infantry from Camp Sherman. The assault, part of a strike zone flare up, involved over 1000 shots with no reported casualties.
The Tennessee house voted 47 to 24 with 20 abstentions to non-concur in the senate ratification and expunged the record of ratification from its journal. Governor Roberts and Attorney General Thom discussed legal remedies, while state and federal officials noted the issue hinges on certification and court rulings, not immediate departmental action.
The Senate committee probes Republican finances as Will Hays Fred Upham and party leaders deny Cox charges of a 16 million fund. Terence MacSweeney, Cork lord mayor, remains in critical condition in Brixton prison after a hunger strike. A slightly better day allowed brief apportion of care as Mrs. MacSweeney kept vigil at his bedside Tuesday night amid reports of deteriorating health and symptoms in his limbs.
Marion Ohio August 31 Senator Harding endorsed a Roosevelt style conservation program to develop the West and assure future fuel and food supplies. He proposed federal and state authority plus public and private financing and suggested homes for the undeveloped West. Governor Frank Lowden praised Harding’s campaign for dignity and self restraint.
In Benton Harbor Michigan on Labor Day eve Jack Dempsey engaged with Jack Riley in a brief sparring session. Dempsey showed a aggressive mood and traded quick exchanges with Riley as trainer notes described.
The Big Five meat packing firms filed in DC Supreme Court a plan to dispose of their yard holdings after a court ordered divestment. They propose selling to F H Prince & Company of Boston and forming a holding group to offer securities to livestock producers and sellers who manage the properties.
Funeral services for Mrs Sarah Kanouse wife of J B Kanouse will be held this afternoon at four oclock from the Dome Mortuary. Rev C Pisher will conduct the service. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.

A man suspected as a prowler was questioned by police after wandering alleys looking for a hotel. He was escorted to a hotel twice and found wandering again, then fined 25 dollars by the court.
Antoni Janegora, a Mexican, was arrested early Tuesday for taking a set of clothes from another Mexican in Buford. He was turned over to the sheriff, tried in Justice Edwards' court, and fined 30 dollars with 8.50 costs. a jail term of thirty days was suspended.
New York August 31 John W Davis the American ambassador in London conferred with Democratic leaders on the possibility of campaigning for Cox and Roosevelt Senator Harrison of Minnesota chairman of the speakers bureau said Davis was eager to enter the campaign but was deterred by questions of propriety.
