Washington Oct 11 The Food Administrator promises early regulation of baking with plans to standardize flour and bread ingredients and possibly control loaf size or price. Municipal bread depots may be used if retailers cannot be managed by voluntary measures. The baking industry is excluded from the initial food control law set for Nov 1.
Amsterdam reports that Great Britain has suspended all commercial cable communication with the Netherlands until the Dutch government imposes an absolute restriction on the transit of sand gravel and scrap metals through Holland from Germany to Belgium.
Senator La Follette submits a letter to the Senate investigating committee outlining his position and a transcript of his address. He denies saying the United States had no cause for war and attacks press reports as false while certifying the record of stating that former Secretary Bryan knew ammunition was in the Lusitania cargo.
Denver federal agents arrest Dr Arthur N White a Denver physician and head of the White Cross sanitarium on East Colfax. He is charged with illegally selling dope and using a downtown department store as a delivery medium. The arrest follows months of narcotics investigations and a city police cleanup drive.
A Dutch steamer Orange arrived at a Pacific port from the Orient with many German and Austrian diplomats aboard. Government officials and secret service personnel boarded the ship, no mail landed, information was withheld, and passengers were not allowed to disembark.

Federal agents arrested three men in New York on a tungsten export plot tied to Germany. Fritz Ocerundal, a steward aboard the United States liner, carried a suitcase brass check and forty pounds of tungsten. an additional 140 pounds was found under a stateroom floor. Harold A. Conlfent praised the bust, calling it nearly as damaging as sinking ten German submarines.
