Washington warned that China may see a fresh upheaval mirroring the Boyer uprising as tensions rise over rice famine and government actions. Officials caution the situation could trigger foreign danger and call for vigilance from the state department and military.
The American Mining Congress adjourned after electing officers and adopting resolutions urging a nationwide investigation of lands tied to oil and mineral rights. It calls for action to recover lands sold under grants to the Southern Pacific in California, with most minerals except iron reserved. John Derm of Salt Lake was elected president, James Calbreath of Denver secretary, and vice presidents include S. A. Taylor, W. Brunton, and B. A. Montgomery.
Police detained Happy Reid a known local youth after an altercation in a Belton street area, charging him with attempting to shoot a man. The incident occurred near a Bristieenth area as officers moved to secure the scene and investigate.
Portland Maine September 20 Winslow Homer the Marcus artist died at his home in Scarborough yesterday aged 74 years. He lived a hermit like life in his Scarborough Studio for years and his long career earned him a place among America's most original artists. In later years he worked mainly in water colors gaining prominence in that field noted for color and truth to nature.
A well dressed young man was murdered on an express subway train at 1 AM. The assailant, Charles Wright of Elizabeth NJ, was arrested by a subway watchman after a violent quarrel in a crowded car. Wright denies knowledge of the shooting as the train slowed at Fourteenth Street.
In Buena Vista Colorado a woman armed with a shotgun borrowed from a friend chased and recaptured a Chinaman escapee from the state reformatory. The pursued pair, with accomplice Frank Maspen, were tracked by bloodhounds and later brought to justice three miles below the reformatory after being spotted by Mrs. Winters and her mother.

A settlement ending the Talbot estate dispute was reached in the city after the death of Major John Talbot. Mary Talbot of Kearney Nebraska will relinquish as administratrix, with Elizabeth Talbot, the late Major Talbot's wife, to be replaced by Judge Gibson Clark of Cheyenne in the finalized arrangement.
The National Irrigation congress adopted resolutions declaring federal control essential to equitable distribution and use of interstate waters. A minority report favoring state control was defeated. Francis J. Heney urged conserving resources for the people and condemned land grants to transcontinental railroads as excessive. The meeting adjourned with A. Fowler reelected president and next venue at an undetermined location.
Montrose Colorado Sept 80 Mrs W F Crowley and her sister report their father JJ Fullerton burned to death in a cabin near Santa Mita Mexico Monday night. The colony was destroyed and Fullerton a longtime Angora goat raiser had lived in the area for years. Authorities speculate cattlemen opposed to sheep grazing may be involved.
Denver physicians report a rare pellagra case at the county hospital after a bicyclist accident led to examination. The patient, 76 year old Axton Quick, shows classic skin eruptions and debility described by Dr. Van Meter, with Osler’s writings cited on the disease. Quick remarks he has endured sores on hands and feet for fifty five years, downplaying the diagnosis.
A major landslide at Culbera cut Cucuracha augments the Panama Canal prism, burying tracks on the east side and one west track. About 50,000 cubic yards of earth and rock slide down the mountain, blocking the canal ditch and delaying operations to month’s end. Engineers will dig out the material remaining after attempts to stop it.
Chicago police report Wred C. Whahe n then 26 attempted to gain entry to Mrs Potter Palmer’s mansion by placing a bomb beside her door and slashing his coat with a butcher knife before being arrested.
In Rochester the Democratic state convention nominated John A. Dix for governor after a daylong leadership conference. Dix reluctantly agreed after others failed to unite. Thomas F. Conway was chosen for lieutenant governor. Sulger withdrew with 16 votes amid opposition. Bates named for Court of Appeals judge.
At a Red Men banquet on Seventeenth Street a gasoline stove exploded causing a brief blaze. The fire department arrived quickly and controlled the fire. The event proceeded with initiations and Rock Springs chosen as next meeting site. A five year old bystander, Orple Downs, was photographed with officers and a purse presented to him.
