Union leaders claim strike near total effectiveness nationwide while many non union fields in Pennsylvania and Kentucky operate near normal. Officials report numbers of workers out across states as production remains uncertain after All Saints Day amid Army quartermaster orders to keep some mines running.
In Chicago on Friday night eight of the G2 air racers completed the 5 402 mile contest under war time departure. Adverse weather and mechanical failures eliminated most entrants with only eight finishing. Lieutenant Maynard the famed flying parson and Captain Steinle were among those out. Best time went to Captain Alexanderson with a 45 371 second act. Page 6 continues.
District officers of the United Mine Workers of America District 27 gather in Cheyenne for a conference with Wyoming coal mine operators. They discuss accepting any eastern field agreement if Wyoming miners return to work promptly.

Washington Nov 1 The latest Geological Survey figures show Wyoming leads in 640 acre homestead designations with 6 042 687 acres classified. Recent December designations add 66 138 acres split between the Cheyenne Lander districts and Sundance. Senator Kendrick backs rapid final proof requirements to aid settlers. New Mexico and Colorado follow in total land designated. More than one fourth of all land under this law is in Wyoming.
Report states troops from Ft. Russell moved to the Rock Springs area Cheyenne to avert clashes as miners and operators arranged peace measures. Government observers and local officials coordinated patrols with miners deputized to prevent further disturbances.
General Pershing outlined a plan to form a permanent reserve from ex-service members. He suggested restoring disbanded wartime units on paper with volunteers to form a skeleton force, to be held for potential future service. Training camps would feed the reserve as universal training progresses, with periodic drills but no immediate active call.
About 45 percent of workers reported for Colorado Fuel and Iron company camps while mines in Trinidad district closed for lack of protection. Walsenburg silt mines operated at 54 percent. Several properties would not operate until troopers arrive, and others remained shut since a steel strike began.
The sheriff in Walsenburg says troops will not deploy unless an emergency occurs. Guardian presence remains to prevent strife after a historic 1911 miners strike where civilians were killed.
Attorney General Palmer issued instructions to U S attorneys to monitor Webr datciota actions and report any concerted effort to tamper with coal facilities or fix prices. The directive urges prompt communication of suspected criminal syndicalist activity affecting production distribution and storage of coal.
