The register bore the names Mr Osborne and Mrs Osborne but J W Osborne denies signing them or knowing Miss Tanzer. A preliminary hearing examined the mail fraud charge over the signature O Os borne with handwriting viewed as similar by some observers.

Alabama guards Hampton Roads as neutrality patrol continues

The battleship Alabama arrived off Hampton Roads to assist in enforcing neutrality. Officials refused to discuss the German cruiser Prinz Eitel Friedrich while a sentinel guarded the Eitel’s pier through the night.
