Reports from Berlin describe a theater of violence with hundreds killed or wounded amid the Kap revolt. Soviet charter rumors surface as police battle crowds near the Adlon and Brandenburg Gate. Roving troops and revolvers ignite chaos while some cities show signs of easing and workers returning to jobs.
The Lord Mayor of Cork was shot dead at 1 o'clock this morning by masked assailants who entered his residence and then escaped in an automobile. The assailants’ identities are unknown and police investigations are underway.
Berlin dispatches report Bolshevik forces advancing from the east as fighting intensifies around Berlin. A sensational note claims 100 killed at the Brandenburg Gate and the Hotel Adagio dining room destroyed by machine gun fire. Other messages note Essen workers taking armed action and rail stations east of Berlin in Soviet hands. Baltic troops retreating have entrenched near zoological gardens and Charlottenburg west of Berlin.
Chicago reports a joint convention of the National Association of Retail Clothiers and the National Association of Clothing Manufacturers approved uniform year round production to stabilize conditions in the clothing industry and prevent further price advances.
Unconfirmed reports say 1,000 killed at Kiel and grave conditions persist. Communists gain influence in Saxony and Westphalia with a soviet republic proclaimed at Chemnitz and Plauen. In Leipzig workers and bourgeois parties reportedly reach an understanding as communists dominate Bochum Dortmund and Gelsenkirchen but are badly beaten at Solingen and Elberfeld where 5,000 are deployed.
William J. Bryan states his aim is not political office but to repay the American people. He spoke at the Aldine club on his sixtieth birthday, outlining his pledge to work for better laws and a lifetime of public service beyond elected office.
Miss Jennie Foresman sustained a severe scalp wound after being struck and dragged several feet by a car driven by a young boy near the tabernacle on the way home from services. No other injuries were found. The driver remained unidentified. Miss Foresman is sister of Mrs. Frank Lyons.
The funeral for Frank BR Barnett will take place Saturday at 2 PM at the Early Bricker Brothers chapel. Reverend N M Temple will lead the services and the Masonic lodge will conduct a burial rite at Lakeview cemetery.
Fifty five representatives from counties across the state attended a training conference at a Presbyterian church to prepare for the Interchurch World Movement financial campaign set for April 25 to May 2. Speakers included Dean Hamilton of Spokane Rev Wade of Cheyenne and CC Patton national headquarters official who led the session.
Denver reports another 4 cent advance in gas price bringing the new rate to 31 cents per gallon. The increase, the third in a month, is attributed to higher crude oil costs.
Grand Rapids Mich March 18 The Newberry election conspiracy jury deliberated over eight hours without reaching a verdict. Judge C W Sessions excused the twelve jurors until 8 am tomorrow after no report was ready.
In Cheyenne this week an evangelist Dr Bulgin prevented a young mother of two from dying by her own hand. He cited a letter from the woman to him and urged laboring men to curb industrial unrest while condemning foreign radicals. He warned against excessive middlemen in food distribution and criticized dances and roller skating as distractions from family life.
On page 4 of this issue the State Leader runs the first installment of Little Girl, Big Boy, and The Garden Elf a light in tone but serious in purpose serial to spark children interest in gardening. The story will continue daily for about a month in the State Leader.
In Washington on March 19 the peace treaty again failed ratification as 49 voted for and 33 against. The roll call shows 28 Republicans and 24 Democrats for the resolution, with 12 Republicans and 23 Democrats against. Lodge then urged returning the treaty to President Wilson, while Hitchcock objected to immediate action.
London, March 19. The Duchess of Marlborough has filed suit for restitution of conjugal rights. The couple have been separated for years with the duke at Blenheim and the duchess in London. They have two sons, Lord John and Lord Ivor, and the duke’s estate includes Blenheim. The duchess was counsel for Vanderbilt of New York and married the duke in 1895. The marriage’s public notice followed in society circles with royal attendances at the wedding.
The Laramie County Bar Association meets at 4 pm in the district court room of the City-County building to discuss resisting enforcement of the new occupation license ordinance set to pinch pocketbooks April 1. Local lawyers debate the measure with several professionals opposing the ordinance and favoring its enforcement.
