California battleship California heralds electric dreadnaught era
The California, recently launched at Mare Island, is the third US Navy battleship with electric propulsion. Developed from Schenectady plant work, it features 28 000 horsepower turbines, four 12 foot diameter motors, nine boilers, and a 1 022 man crew. Lake De Smet to serve as irrigation reservoir for ranch lands
Sheridan Wyoming March 5 Supplemental irrigation water will be supplied to 20 000 acres of rich agricultural lands belonging to the Lieder estate in Lower Clear Creek valley through Lake De Smet. The project follows transfer of ownership to the Lester estate and includes heavy equipment and a four mile ditch from Piney to the lake. Water releases will supply the Piney area and Leiter ditches downstream as needed.
