A burst of reports from El Paso to Douglas describe insurrecto activity across the border. Citizens petition Congress against intervention in Mexico while Mexican insurgents issue ultimatums and mass around Naco Ensenada and nearby areas.
Governor Od die received word that renegade Indian Quehe had his fourth white murder of the year by shooting prospector James Patterson at Big Bend on the Colorado River whose body was found yesterday. A posse has pursued Quele for two months but he remains at large. A large reward will be offered and state police will join the hunt.
A special House committee said Hamon offered an improper bribe to Senator Gore and approached Representative Creager with a similar proposal in the Indian contracts inquiry involving J W McMurray. McMurray’s consent could not be shown. Hamon singled out as problematic. The report notes McMurray needed improper influence for Chief Green McCur tin’s support.
In New York on February 28, church groups urged aldermen to pass a city ordinance against profanity on stage. A. S. Colburn of the Anti Profanity league cited counts of "damn" and "hell" in Shakespeare and argued the need for regulation amid debate on the term's acceptability.
New Rochelle resident H A Weaver cites a letter from his brother C A Weaver chief engineer for the Southern Pacific in Mexico. He says the government is very unpopular and revolutionary sentiment runs across classes. He estimates seven of ten people support the movement and warns of impending explosive tension tied to a large mine.
A 13 year old girl Josephine Pistroski barefooted and in snow ran to the Chicopee River and pulled Victoria Karsenowski 13 and Mabel Grotowski 14 to safety from the ice. Her collie Beau ty attempted to save Mary Zybura 18 who drowned after being dragged by the dog.
Ban Francisco Feb 28 The last hope of Abe Reuf escaping his 14 year sentence was dispelled as the Supreme Court vacated a recent clemency hearing. The court ruled that Justice F W Henshaw was absent when the order was issued nullifying the action.
Police watched as a 1000 strong mob attacked a Negro movie house on Lower Main Street and then torched and looted several Negro saloons and dwellings. Many Black residents were beaten while officers failed to make arrests as cars fled to safety.
President Taft names William H. Lewis of Boston a Negro to be assistant attorney general of the Department of Justice. He also names John F. Enalgm of Colorado as chief inspector of locomotive boilers.
Harriet Ive an 18 year old near blind woman separated from her husband, died after her gown caught fire from a parlor stove. She was a former teacher in New Jersey and daughter of Henry Mead of Brooklyn. her husband claimed to be a Malian count.
Chicago editors report the Typographical Union walkout halting most presses. The Chicago American and other papers will publish only four pages in the morning edition as workers protest wage terms and conditions.
Washington February 28 The senate defeated a direct election of senators measure with 54 for and 33 against needing a two thirds vote. Debate indicated defeat was expected but supporters hoped for adoption in a future session. Senators Bailey and Clark of Wyoming supported, Culberson and Guggenheim voted for, Warren of Wyoming opposed.
York reports a crackdown on wax figures in shops along Broadway and Fifth Avenue. Mr. Comstock says he has warned merchants that the figures must be removed or face arrest and trial with possible fines and imprisonment if they allow the wax women to appear in public again. Manufacturers are said to comply with the request.
New York officials report 1910 tuberculosis deaths cost the state about 64 million dollars. Professor Walter F. Wilcox of Cornell presented the figure, based on an $8,829 per death estimate set by the 1907 International Congress on Tuberculosis. Livingston Farrand and others spoke at a tuberculosis exhibit event.
New York Feb 28 Menrietts French of South Dakota talay received a verdict of ten thousand dollars for breach of promise against Davis PB. Decker of New York. Judge Erlanger stated he would not reduce the verdict, noting it fully reflected the plaintiff's claim.

Ottawa February 28 Bar1 Grey governor general of Canada urged rifle shooting at the Dominion Rifle association meeting warning that 400 million Chinese could be trained into a fighting force if bullied by Europeans. He also decried rich men not funding rifle promotion in Canada. St Petersburg February 28 a clash near Mukden between Chinese and Japanese enforcing anti plague measures left several Japanese dead.
Reno reports Death Valley Scotty seen in Winnemucca with several small bags of gold dust. The famed mystery man wore a slouched sombrero blue shirt and red handkerchief, drawing attention while offering no clues on the source of his wealth.
Northampton Mass February 28. Smith College hosts a militant suffrage event after the Woman’s Suffrage association rents Olty hall for March 8 with Prof Max Fastman of Columbia as principal speaker. Organizers include Mrs C F Emerick Mel Ht Sleeper wives of professors and faculty members Miss Adams Hawiman Hanson and White. Over 200 college women support the movement.
Ten patrol officers were dropped from the Denver police department, nineteen became probationers, and nineteen were made provisional patrolmen. New recruits with no prior service were placed on probation for six months.
Two masked robbers raided the express car of an arriving Iowa Mountain train within city limits. They boarded at Ivory station, bound and gagged the messenger, broke into the safe, and took cash and packages before escaping as the train slowed near Tower Grove. Police on trail. a large sum believed seized.
A large sum of money and bullion were rifled from the steamer Princess Beatrice en route from Skagway to Vancouver. The loss was discovered on arrival in Vancouver. The exact amount awaits checked registered mail records.
In Hinton Virginia a mass meeting call urged state militia to enforce a board of health ban on marble playing. The claim cites diphtheria spread among boys who moisten marbles with lips and notes an epidemic three weeks long. Police say marble games persist despite health orders.
The National Academy of Design accepts Avard Fairbanks 18 years old for his sculpture Fighting Panthers. He is son of artist John Fairky, born in Provo Utah, but raised mainly in Salt Lake City.
Washington notes the Senate agreed to vote on the Lorimer case at 1 30 pm tomorrow after a bargaining retreat over a permanent tariff board. Pro Lorimer and anti Lorimer factions reached a compromise delaying unfinished business and setting up the day’s roll calls. If adopted the move could see Lorimer kept in place and the tariff board bill pass with other appropriations likely delayed to later votes. The session adjourned until 11 am tomorrow.
Santa Barbara, Feb 28. I P Ripley president of the Santa Fe and Judge Lovett head of the Harriman system arrived in Santa Barbara and began talks at Ripley’s home. They aim to frame working agreements on the recent rate decision and determine the railroads’ attitude toward it.
