Barnes struggles after his foot is caught in a dark pool by interlaced branches or tree roots. He regains balance, uses a poplar sapling for shade, and carefully investigates his ankle snag as he works to free himself.
A woodsman named Barnes finds himself trapped ankle deep in a sunken tree limb in a deep river. He battles the snag, uses a sapling as a lever, and, after a tense sequence, rescues himself by gripping a bear and forcing the beast to retreat. The bear escapes with the salmon as Barnes escapes to shore in relief.
