Barnes crawls down a forested valley and slips into a deep, swift river. He fights to surface, drifted by debris, and clings to a sapling as the bank splits away under his weight, leaving him trapped and calculating his next move.
A man named Barnes becomes briefly entangled in a twisted root or branch trap in a pool. He regains balance and uses a poplar sapling for shade while cautiously freeing his trapped foot and finding the interlaced plant material likely caused by a prior cave-in.
Barnes fights to free his trapped ankle as a spring river current holds him under. A bear bullies the pool for a salmon, then Barnes clamps its haunches and swam from danger, finally loosening his grip and surviving with steaming, sunlit relief.
