Washington reports the sixty sixth Congress appropriated about five billion dollars. Chairman Good cites an exact total of 4,859,890,827 with 4,873,395,279 for government needs starting July 1 and 486,495,048 for deficiencies.
Nicholas Murray Butler accuses a motley group of stock gamblers oil and mining promoters munition makers and others of seizing on General Wood to push him for the presidential nomination. He says the aim was to stop sale of nominations at auction and to defeat Wood by rallying New York delegates for Lowden on later ballots.
Secretary of the Interior Payne urged development of foreign oil resources by American interests to ensure adequate U S supply. He sent the idea in a letter to Senator Phelan of California, who had introduced a bill to create a U S oil corporation and develop fields abroad.
Clarksburg West Virginia June 44 officers of the Dav is for Presidents club rest here tonight for San Francisco where they will establish headquarters in the interests of John W Davis United States ambassador to Great Britain for the democratic nomination for the presidency.

He urges adoption of the league of nations at Congress and predicts overwhelming U S voter approval if the issue is presented clearly. He warns the league question may be crowded out by other campaign issues and says a concrete nonpartisan program could be ready soon.
Secretary Daniels in Washington on Flag Day urges the flag as a symbol of world peace. He calls Americans to ignore provincial pleas and renew the altruism that sent the army overseas and to support peace buttressed by covenants among allied nations.
Senator Walsh of Massachusetts denies reports he may accept a nomination for national office. He states he has not considered candidacy and has not been offered any nomination. He mentions rumors linking him to a vice presidential run on a democratic or independent ticket.
World heavyweight champion William Harrison Dempsey testified in a San Francisco trial on draft evasion and other charges. He denied harming his former wife Maxine, attributing the jaw fracture to a fall and detailing his life challenges and earnings in 1917 and 1918.
June 14 1920 Republican presidential hopeful Senator Johnson of California arrived in Riverdale Maryland and declined to comment on the convention or his future plans. He planned to visit his capitol office next day to wind up pending matters.
A Lakeshore electric car struck a motor truck at Genoa, 15 miles east of Toledo, killing one person, severely injuring three, and wounding more than twenty others with light injuries. The crash occurred late today.

A Tokio cable reported fifteen cholera cases at Noji and two at Ganka, according to the Japanese Nippu Jiji. The dispatch notes the outbreak appears in several points across the Far East.
In Bristol Virginia on June 14 a feud between the Berry and Fee families in Esserville erupted in a street pistol fight. Robert C. Berry and George Polly were killed. DeWitt Fee and a baby were seriously wounded while Tom Berry and George Berry were lightly wounded. A deputy sheriff was disarmed earlier, and a stray bullet struck a miner's baby in a crib.
A severe storm near San Juan in north western Honduras caused extensive property damage and several deaths. Five inches of rain drenched the region, with reports of numerous missing and injured residents.

He visited his Capitol office, posed for motion pictures, greeted friends, reviewed congratulatory messages, played golf, and worked late to catch up with correspondence. He declined to discuss party policy or campaign plans until his acceptance speech and did not reveal whether he would resign his Senate seat.
Guatemala City report says the government has contracted banks to issue 60 million pesos about 2.225 million dollars to repair and rebuild private homes damaged by the 1939 earthquakes. Funds will be loaned to property owners at interest not above 8 percent.
Montreal reports George S. Malapert governor of St. Vincent DePaul penitentiary sentenced by Justice Duclos to one year in prison for contempt of court for refusing to produce two long term prisoners on a habeas corpus writ. He said he refused on the advice of the minister of justice.
In St Louis on June 44 about 40 Republicans met to urge the state committees to convene and address derelictions in the state organization. They cited senate testimony on pre convention campaign expenditures tied to Lowden funds and called for a general clean up. A 10 member committee was named to present demands, with former Circuit Judge M G Reinolia warning of a statewide mass meeting if ignored.
In Chicago at Portage Park, 200 pupils were barred from classes after refusing vaccination. Parents vow to file a legal fight as several smallpox cases are reported near the school.
In St Louis on June 14 Professor F A Woll of the College of the City of New York told the twenty third annual congress of the American Optometric association that excessive light in factories shops and offices harms sight and lowers worker efficiency.
The Utah State Democratic convention adopted a resolution endorsing William G. McAdoo for the party’s presidential nomination at the June 28 San Francisco convention. Eight uninstructed delegates and eight alternates were chosen.
