Holt Planned 10 Sink Two Ocean Liners

New York. Frank Holt, who aimed to kill J. P. Morgan and set off a Capitol bombing, planned to destroy the transatlantic liners Saxonia and Philadelphia with dynamite aboard before they sailed from New York to Liverpool July 2. He wrote a letter to his wife, received in Dallas, prompting authorities to brief Major Pullman and the Navy to send a fast cruiser after the ships.

Cheyenne Pair Narrowly Escape Drowning At Long Beach

Miss Mildren Hon of Cheyenne and Dr Wayne Hanson formerly of Cheyenne now in Los Angeles, escaped drowning in a dangerous Long Beach surf on the Fourth of July. A strong undertow pulled them beyond the breakers. lifeguards rescued them after a severe struggle. Both stayed exhausted but recovered quickly.

Bank Robbery Battle Races Through Arkansas Town

In Lonoke county near Little Rock seven bank robbers fought a pistol duel with over 100 locals. Attackers dented the Bank of England safe but failed to dynamite it. Arrangements for Reception of the Liberty Bell Completed

Governer Kendrick and Mayor La Fontaine finalize local plans for the Liberty Bell reception next Saturday afternoon. The bell car will be at the foot of Carey avenue east of the Union Pacific freight house. A level viewing pass will allow all ages to view the relic up close. The bell arrives from Creeley at 3 45 pm and will stay about 45 minutes, minus 15 minutes for positioning. No local speakers. a commissioner will brief briefly. Cheyenne police will guard the cordon under Chief McClements.

Thaw Sanity Trial May Forcibly Test Evelyn Nesbit

New York July 7 Supreme Justice Hendrick ordered a writ of body attachment to compel Evelyn Nesbit Thaw to testify in the sanity case of her husband. Dr Bernhard Livingston and Deputy Attorney General Frank Coe argued she is mentally and physically unable, but the court ruled the reason insufficient and indicated the attachment could proceed if requested. Thaw is expected to testify late this afternoon.

Tornado devastates St. Louis area causing deaths and damage

A powerful tornado and cloudburst struck St. Louis and St. Charles counties, ripping through towns, destroying a district of 18 by 9 blocks near St. Charles, causing several deaths and widespread collapse including hospitals. The storm dropped four and a half inches of rain in under 30 minutes and damaged trains and churches.

Sunday School Trolley Wreck Leaves 12 Dead

Toronto dispatch reports twelve members of a Toronto Sunday school died after a trolley derailed near Queenstown Ontario during a trip to Niagara Falls. Forty others were injured, some seriously, in the wreck that struck the party returning from a Sunday outing.
