Grant Hill Right of Way Approved by City Council

The city council passed a franchise bill for the Colorado Railroad company to build track from the Burlington depot area to connect with the Colorado & Southern lines. Amendments added safeguards and set a two year completion horizon for the line through the city. Voting showed several council members opposed but the ordinance outcome pleased local business leaders.

South Side Fire Extinguishes Small Tire Blaze

A tire alarm sounded about 6 30 in the evening from box 21 and the Bowth Side company rushed to the corner of Twelfth and Bent streets. They extinguished a tire caused by an overheated stove. The home of Wooten Stallang sustained no serious damage.

Fast Mail Derailed on Continental Divide near Cherokee

Sunday morning a fast mail train No 9 derailed at Cherokee just east of the continental divide. The tender and three front cars left the track damaging the cars. Five clerks in the wrecked car were shaken up, none seriously injured. The train was delayed eight hours. No cause given.
