Edith Melcher a 23 year old widow from Behenectady, arrested in Rochester, confessed to giving her six year old son carbolic acid and causing his death in a swamp near Albany. The body was found and she claimed the boy was being taken to Chicago by an uncle before her admission. She cited hopelessness in caring for herself and her child and hinted at a romance in Rochester.
