Memphis Tenn Ped C J Raine president of Mercantile bank is charged with embezzlement. A petition claims Raine caused a shortage of about 758 804 and bank liabilities total around 2 196 604 with assets of 1 408 089. He allegedly used a system to deceive directors and conceal losses from speculation.
Haitian congress elected Orestes Zamor as provisional president succeeding Michel Oreste who fled the capital during the revolution. Zamor’s selection comes amid political upheaval and calls for stable governance in Haiti.
