British Line Holds Solid Against German Assault in France

In France on December 3, German forces launched a major infantry and artillery push in the Gonnellau sector from La Vacquerie to Vendhulle. The British, reinforced, repelled the attack with heavy casualties on both sides and pushed back entries at La Vacquerie as fighting raged along a wide front toward Masnieres. The Field Marshal reported the enemy delivered great strength from Gonne to Marcoing and was repulsed. East Africa was announced as cleared of the enemy.

Armistice Moves and Front Fraternization Reported

Reports from Berlin Amsterdam and London indicate a Russia Bolshevik armistice agreed to begin Sunday night with hostilities halted and lines opened for contact and movement. Fraternization had increased on northern and western fronts as terms were negotiated. The torpedo boat Bifnyi was blown up by an enemy mine on Thursday.

Balloons Capture After Runaway Trip Across States

A balloon broke from Fort Sill moorings and landed near Rush Springs Oklahoma. Two officers in the basket were uninjured. A separate observation balloon escaped after a plane crash severed its anchoring cable at Fort Sill. The balloon traveled eastward with escorting aircraft. A third balloon from Fort Omaha was captured near Trenton Nebraska after a roam across Kansas Oklahoma and Nebraska.

Council takes no action on saloon closing request

At the regular city council meeting yesterday no action was taken regarding the saloon closing request from Governor Houx. Mayor Fontaine refused to comment on any forthcoming city action and gave an absolute refusal to discuss the matter with representatives.

Mexican Outlaws Hit by U S Cavalry at Rio Grande

Army dispatch reports Mexican outlaws fired on a U S cavalry patrol five miles from Indio Texas injuring Private Kelst. Troops crossed into Mexico and killed twelve bandits including Felipe Romero and Rafael Venasiada, burning their shacks. Reinforcements reached the area as a Buena Vista clash left one American rider dead and three others among the dead and wounded.

Congress opens its new session with an appropriation plan totaling 13.5 billion dollars for next year’s war and general expenses. President Wilson is set to speak in a joint session at 12 30 PM outlining the session’s program and possible moves toward war actions.

Roving Convict Band Robs Passengers After Prison Break

Thirteen convicts who escaped from the state prison stop a Chicago Ottawa and Peoria interurban car late at night. They robbed passengers and crew and drove the car to Morris Illinois where they abandoned it. Posses were organized and are in pursuit.
