In Kemmerer Wyoming on August 21 a ranchwoman said to be suspected of cow rustling was shot by a masked man who waylaid her near the ranch. She lies in a hospital with a shattered left arm and the assailant’s identity remains unknown.
Will contest set for September 3 in Cheyenne as Nora Van Dyke dies leaving about 75 000 with most estate going to a sister in Ireland. Relatives allege lack of testamentary competence and seek probate challenge. executor D W Gill faces opposition from M A Kline and attorney William A Niner in New York.
Mrs Rishey Charles King and Philp Hassey were arrested for stealing a large load of cattle owned by James and William Fossil district stock moved to the Soult market Fos sil. They posted bail for a preliminary hearing and returned to their ranches. Mrs Richey was wounded while preparing to go to Kemmerer for the preliminary hearing and a new date was set for next Saturday if she can appear.
Mrs Richey recounts an intimidation laden meeting with a masked rider two miles north of her home. She describes the man with an iron gray horse, a red handkerchief over his head, and a black mask, who halted near her as she rode out to check cattle.
A suspect denies accomplices in a cattle case under interrogation. The questioner threatens harm, the witness insists on truth, and as he flees on horseback a gunshot rings out. The horse bolts, carrying him at least 400 yards before stopping.
