In Caspar August 17 W P Lingle of Elk Horn Company and A W Cameron were injured when Elk Horn No 8 rig caught fire in the Big Muddy district. Bad Check Artist Operates in City

A man using the alias B. H. Knapp passed bogus checks to steal a $225 diamond ring from Ralph Adamsky and $20 from Bob Myers. After banks closed he bought the ring with a fake check, then had Myers cash another bad check for $20 at a saloon. Police nabbed him within hours. he carried the ring and about $60. He was turned over to county authorities.

Le Barron Restaurant Closes Early Due to Labor Shortage

For the first time in years the Le Barron on Seventeenth Street shut at 9 PM Saturday, ending all night service. Management cites difficulty securing waltable night staff, including a cook, after searches citywide. The restaurant will remain on 9 PM close until a suitable cook and help are found.

Indian and Fire Water Trigger Shooting Scrape in Lander

In Lander Wyoming on August 17 a booze peddler and a conflicted Shoshoni Indian clashed with deputies. Johnnie Burns was shot in the stomach and is in critical condition at Bishop Randall hospital. Burns and others pursued the Indian after he resisted arrest and fled onto railroad tracks. The Indian fired at his captors before fleeing across a river bridge.
