New Jersey August 7. Governor Wilson accepting the Democratic presidential nomination outlines a policy framework built on a Rule of right and justice. He argues for tariff reform trusts regulation banking reform and fair treatment of labor and Philippines governance while stressing national development and open opportunity.
Wyoming bankers in Cheyenne at the Wyoming Bankers Association convention anticipate a highly prosperous year. Farmers and ranchers express optimism, with reports from Wheatland noting excellent crops. Officials and bankers from Rock Springs to Pine Bluffs predict the best years in state history, though cautions about presidential year spending appear.

Chief Ed Scheela announced extensive plans to safeguard Cheyenne during Frontier Days next week. Extra officers from Denver and detectives from Salt Lake City, Kansas City, and Omaha will assist, with a chain gang cleaning streets and two women sentenced to 30 days for health violations.
A band of fifty Blackfoot Indians in war regalia greeted the Taft camping expedition in Glacier Mont. Chief White Quiver presented Robert Taft with a young bear named Teddy Bear. Taft remarked he might not dare take it home due to strained ties between his father and Roosevelt.
Delegates at Chicago Coliseum select Theodore Roosevelt of New York for president and Hiram Johnson of California for vice president. They accept amid cheers with prayers for victory, the party renaming itself The Progressive Party and adjourn with a Doxology.
J. I. Carper of Denver completes the largest real estate transfer in the region. Denver Suburban Farms sells 4000 irrigated acres near Denver to Capitalists from St Paul for 600000, averaging 150 per acre. In exchange the Suburban Co takes 27000 acres 40 miles south of Winnipes Canada.
Governor Wilson outlines two major tasks for the nation. He calls for a broad readjustment to involve all people, insisting on representative government and a move away from private deals. He warns against narrow control and emphasizes justice in tariff, trusts, currency, labor, and opportunity for all.

Second Lieutenant Earle Chant of the Eleventh Infantry is reported absent without leave after failing to appear at reveille near Pole Mountain on August 5. He has been seen in Cheyenne, faces possible court martial, and is suspected of desertion following disciplinary actions. Chant, born Illinois September 1 1883, served in coast artillery before joining the Eleventh Infantry in 1909.
The Buffalo undertaker Daniel Mitchell, sixty, was killed by black damp in an abandoned coal mine near Buffalo while inspecting it for reopening. His companion was overcome but escaped. Mitchell’s father in law, Thomas Smith, was killed in the Depass mine weeks earlier. Daniel Spain, a soldier at Fort Mackenzie, was bound over to the federal grand jury in Cheyenne on a murder charge for killing Private Warrington with a rifle in the barracks.
The Progressive platform calls for direct primaries and popular election of senators, initiative referendums and recall, woman suffrage, federal department of labor, eight hour day, child labor abolition, wage laws, anti railroad rate abuses, strong Sherman act, end to the commerce court, and public water power compensation. It seeks nationwide farm welfare, natural resource development, Alaska local self government, protective tariffs, tariff revision, pensions for soldiers, and parcel post expansion.
