Termination of Outlaw Meeting Triggers Chicago Strikes

Chicago leaders report John Grunau, head of the outlaw Yardmen's association, released on bond and recaptured after violating an agreement to stay out of strike activity. A mass meeting ended amid calls for Grunau, with thousands of strikers chanting and blocking exits. Rail traffic slowed briefly but 120 workers returned to duties and coal cars numbered eleven hundred arrived. New York railroad managers say unauthorized-strike participants lose seniority and must reapply as new hires.
