Mob tries to lynch accused killer at Marion jail
In Indianapolis a mob of about 2000 men stormed the Marion county jail seeking to seize William Ray 19 held for the murder of 14 year old Mariah Huff. One negro was shot and 15 men were arrested as officers under Adjutant General Harry B Smith held the jail. Ray reportedly confessed to the girl’s murder and authorities fear further attempts to break the jail.
