Austrian and German press foresee a major Italian drive on the western front with operations vast enough to threaten Switzerland. They suggest Austro German forces could encircle Switzerland while American troops in Lorraine face possible attacks and Swiss neutrality would be tested.
The German government definitively annulled the peace resolution “without annexations or indemnities” passed by the relcastag majority. An official dispatch from France cites Tageblatt Rundschau stating Count Hertling warned leaders of the majority he would resign if they opposed his view. The majority then endorsed the imperial program including annexation of French territory and Belgian Flanders.
Postmaster Walter L. Larsh received a copy of a Rock Springs produced petition by M. A. Anderson urging death to all German spies. The petition, circulated statewide, was returned due to lack of government authorization and Anderson acting as a private citizen. A letter explaining the rejection was sent to Anderson.
Charles M. Schwab was named director general of a new shipping administration created by the White House. He accepted the post at the request of President Wilson. Schwab, head of Bethlehem Steel, is described as one of America's leading industrial figures.
An Atlantic port report says the crew of submarine U-58, sunk by an American destroyer, arrived in the United States. The about twenty prisoners are to be interned, with exact numbers not released.
A Caribbean action reports four armed Teuton ships sunk. A Trinidad post office was wrecked by a dynamite explosion today, and Postmaster George Scott was killed. Relatives search for his remains.
German forces continue to seize historic artworks and fine furniture from Alsace and Lorraine as they advance, descri bing a supposed final effort to strip value from the region. The piece notes Alsace Lorraine as historic centers for craft and furniture making, with heirloom pieces passing to native families now threatened by occupation.
London April 16. Ten German trawlers were sunk by British forces in the Kattegat area amid shifting Baltic waters. The German announcement reported the loss with no British casualties and noted the engagement occurred yesterday with Denmark and Sweden observing nearby.
Senator William Kenyon of Iowa urged Liberty loan support in a gym speech, describing German atrocities in France and Belgium. Fire at the Friedрихshahn aircraft plant Saturday night destroys the facility and thirty Quadros of airplanes reserved for use by American air forces. Estimated casualties include 140 killed and 200 injured.

Field Marshal Haig reported German capture of Bailleul in the northern Flanders drive. British withdrawals north of Ballleuw and Walvergham left Baillews in enemy hands as fresh German attacks near Wratchaete and Vieux-Berga were repulsed with prisoners taken. The fall marks a key objective on the Messines ridge as German forces press toward the Ypres sector.
Forecast shows warmer conditions for Cheyenne and vicinity with a rise in temperatures. Expect 20 to 25 degrees above normal and 25 to 40 degrees range across Wyoming with winds from the west.
