Sheridan crowd hears Governor J M Carey urge end to one man rule and praise progress in Wyoming. He cites Sheridan’s rise, praises commission government trial, defends veto power, tax reform, and Roosevelt era progress.
A jury in Laramie returned a not guilty verdict after about three hours in the trial of Colonel Horton charged with the murder of Herbert Baker last November. Prosecutors sought manslaughter. defense argued self defense after Baker knocked Horton down in the Union Pacific yards.
Active recruiting for unemployed miners by United Mine Workers organizers plus a Philadelphia and Reading railroad notice that shop workers will be put on short time during mine suspension mark today’s developments in the anthracite coal regions.
Josep Heolzaphfel, who began from Frankfurt October 10 1908 to walk the world in three years, reached Cheyenne and stands to win 11000 if on schedule. John W Shaffer, a local resident and self described professional walker, bets 5000 he can beat Heolzapfel to Denver. The race will start from Cheyenne next Tuesday morning.
Centennial April 4 report says work on the Larante Main’s pea Pacific railroad will resume in April. Winter gangs have finished tunnels and major progress is made. The line has reached northern Colorado coal fields and will extend to Steamboat Springs Craig Meeker and Rangely.
Nearly one hundred industrial workers, many admitting anarchist sympathies, were forced to kneel and kiss the American flag near the Orange county line in San Diego as deputies watched. They had ridden in by freight from San Ana and were escorted back to the county line amid armed vigilance and a guard of deputies and citizens.
Washington April 4 The Senate may act soon on a bill to repeal the Canadian reciprocity act passed last year. Senator Weyburn of Idaho backs a modification to retain Section 2, placing Canadian paper and wood pulp on free import without qualification. If repealed, publishers would face duties on paper and wood.

J. R. Stewart a brakeman 25 killed when he fell from an eastbound freight in Laramie Wyoming as cars passed over him. He died after 14 hours of suffering at the Union Pacific hospital. Stewart had only two weeks with the railroad and his parents live in Little Rock Arkansas.
At Holsington Kansas on April 4 a watchman Chas Levin was killed and time keeper C W Layman mortally wounded in a revolver duel with Bud Smith a discharged worker who opened fire on shopmen at the Missouri Pacific railroad shops. Smith died before a lynching could be carried out.
General Orozco said Parral will fall within twenty four hours. He plans to move on Torreon once Parral is secured, as the town is now strongly defended by federals.
A telegram from Weston County leaders to Governor Carey urges an immediate special session to relieve farmers statewide amid seed and feed shortages. The note warns a failure to act could worsen the 1912–13 winter, noting railroads may offer freight rebates and banks have loans, while railroads elsewhere reject seed lending.
Brigadier General Carey retired and died at his winter home in Orlands Florida. He served as paymaster general of the army during the Spanish American War.
Representative Randell of Texas, a Democrat, charges that many Congressmen are approachable during legislative work and that nearly every member is in the employ of an interest or under influence. He speaks on a bill to bar federal employees from taking retainers from corporations in interstate commerce.
