Lone Beach Calif April 3 Cal praith FP Rogers the first man to cross the continent in an aeroplane was killed today when his Wright plane plunged from about two hundred feet near a beach amusement pier. He lived only minutes and was found with fatal injuries as the craft tumbled into the surf. Rogers had been making daily flights here and had carried many passengers, then dove toward the crowd and crashed.

Carl Haneschka of Cheyenne earned hero status in Chicago when he operated an elevator through smoke and heat to evacuate dozens from the Mentone hotel fire.
