Paris reports the death of Emile Zola a famed French novelist born in 1840 from carbon monoxide emitted by a stove. Madame Zola is seriously ill. The death follows a return from a summer vacation and a night of groans heard by servants. The public shows admiration as two theaters close in his honor.
Dr F 8S Coburn vice president of the Bonanza Mining and Smelting company committed suicide with a pistol at his residence in St Louis this morning. He cited business troubles as the cause. The mines are in Marion county Arkansas. Coburn was worth $100,000.
President Mitchell met miners in Philadelphia at the International Machinists Union office this morning and then conferred at the Hotel Walton with an unknown person. District presidents were summoned as important developments seem imminent.
