In Manhattan Tend erloin district a well dressed man’s mutilated body was found in a furnace cellar. Restaurateur Thomas Tobin was arrested as a witness then later killed the unknown man believed to be James Craft of Long Island. Bartender McEnery witnessed the crime after a quarrel. Tobin attempted to burn the body as police arrived.
President J J Hill of the Great Northern and Northern Securities argues there are not robber trusts but many sound enterprises. He contends some urge handing business to Congress while cautioning that Congress should punish wrongdoers and protect rightful actions.
New York reports Big Bill Devery, newly chosen head of the Ninth district, will travel by special train with edibles for about $6,000 to attend the Democratic state convention. He is the sole delegate, and rumors say the display may be to prevent being shut out.
