Federal Judge McPherson issued a restraining order at Omaha on Union Pacific’s request to bar striking employees from interfering with new hires and from lingering around the shops. The action followed the murder of Earl Caldwell, a non union man.
Horace Gray associate justice of the U S Supreme Court died at Nahant Massachusetts from paralysis. Born 1828 in Boston he served twenty years on the high bench after Harvard graduation and Massachusetts positions including chief justice. He resigned August 11th last due to ill health and Judge Holmes succeeded him.
Kansas City Sept 16 Judge Thayer ordered the discharge of the Guardian Trust company receiver, a move that returns control to Stillwell and his allies after John W Gates loss in prior efforts.

New York reports the mammoth tunnel is three fifths completed after two years of work. Twenty one million dollars have been spent and twenty four lives have been sacrificed. Engineers expect to start trains by next Christmas.

South Africa is described as the dearest place to live with rising rents, scarce lodgings, and food prices soaring. A correspondent warns of mass influx and distress, highlighting women workers and shop girls as worst sufferers. beer costs rise to $1 a bottle and wages remain varied from $760 to $1,200 annually in the region.
