At daylight off Duluth harbor the coal and iron freighter George Hadley and the whaleback Wilson collided. The Wilson sank with eight crew lost. the Hadley reached shore disabled. Hadley carried 3000 tons of coal. Wilson carried ore. Each vessel valued at 75000 dollars.
The Liberal Democrats in New York hold a state convention today to mobilize for a vigorous fall campaign. Speeches criticize David B Hl and lukewarm Bryan backers as the party plans its strategy. A separate note announces a G A R reunion at Rocky Fort Colorado June 10 to 12 with tickets on sale June 9 and 10 carrying a $10 20 round trip fare.
In Wilkesbarre an massive sympathy strike brings 170000 miners to the scene as 18000 bituminous workers join the action. Mitchell leads campaigns. 12000 more expected next week. New York June 7 Bat Masterson with two confederates was arrested on the complaint of Geogre H. Snow son of the Mormon church president for running a crooked faro game in which Snow lost 16000. The three men were released on bonds of 1000 each.
Topeka June 7 the supreme court today upheld the validity of the Kansas antitrust law enacted by the Populists affirming a three months sentence and a $100 fine imposed in Rush County on J. Smiley secretary of the Grain Dealers' Association. The court holds making anticompetitive agreements is contrary to public policy.
Washington reports Secretary Moody announced that Chicago crew members held in Venice face possible court martial. The court of inquiry recommended charges against Lieutenant Coldridge Captain Wynne Surgeon Leadbetter while actions against Cadet Langley and Carol Kress be dropped. Admiral Crowingshild disapproved the recommendations.

A large crowd witnesses the contest as North Platte brings many supporters to challenge their old rivals who have previously upset them. An interstate race unfolds between two passenger trains from Philadelphia to San Francisco carrying Mystic Shrine members. The Lulu temple Luba special left Omaha and aims to complete the journey in eighty one hours, racing the Imperial special via the southern route. The Lulu train overtook its regular train near Grand Island after a half hour start.
