Royal Canadian Legion Branch 258 in Chetwynd announces a social evening Saturday open to all members and wives and to members of the ladies auxiliary and their husbands. The event starts at 9 p.m. at the Legion Hall with advance tickets required for members and invited guests.

The council also considers library funding and a by law to curb land speculation, with mayoral remarks on convention notes.
The Chetwynd and District Arena nears completion with lobby concession bathrooms and furnace room finished. The lobby floor is plywood for skate wear and natural ice could still use the space as a change room. Arena Commission seeks about 45000 dollars more borrowing plus a 25000 grant to finish bleachers changerooms and artificial ice gear. Decision expected within the week.
R.C.M.P. reported charges against Kiewer Dawson Johnson for lead overweight with a $102 fine. William Henry Miller faced lack of care and control while impaired and paid $350. Dwight L Hirondelle was fined $100 for driving without due care. The force advised that studded tires may now be installed on vehicles.
B C Hydro has called tenders to clear the first 101 miles of right of way for a 138000 volt power line serving Sukunka Valley coal operations. Bids close September 26. The 35 mile line runs from Chetwynd to Brameda Resources camp along the Sukunka river west bank.
