The year ended with a banquet at the Legion Hall on Sept. 26, 1972, honoring the Yankees who won every game. Attending were players, coaches, fathers and invited guests. Sgt. Man survives grizzly bear encounter in British Columbia
Ross Napoleon and cousin Frank Napoleon guided American hunters near Willow Flats in Mt. Le Moray when a grizzly charged. After losing tracks in snow laden trees they split to encircle the bear. Ross crossed fallen logs, surprised by the animal in a hollow and was mauled before firing a shot that failed to stop the bear.

Building permits rise in village of Chetwynd in 1972
Since January 1 1972 Chetwynd issued 29 building permits totaling 595 267 dollars. Sept 1972 alone saw seven permits worth 142 378 dollars including five new residences and one industrial dry kiln. Rental demand remains high with many seeking short term rentals before homeownership. In a separate note Frank Napoleon survived a grizzly encounter losing an index finger but kept humor, planning another hunt after hospital treatment.

Local volleyball opens season with seniors and juniors split
The 72 73 volleyball season began last Friday with the Senior girls losing to the men's team led by Ray Hunt Leon Umberger and Daryl Wilson. The senior boys also fell to last year’s grads. Saturday in Fort St John the girls won one of three matches with a 16 14 deciding loss. The boys went three of five behind strong defense from Garth Reese.
