Originating in Germany in 1973 the Take Back the Night event spreads worldwide to protest rape abuse and violence. The year event on Sept 20 at 7 pm meets at the Women's Resource Centre proceeds along roads to Tansi Centre A and W area with a post walk safety presentation and refreshments call 788-3793 for details.

British Columbia housing starts plunge in August 1982 comparison
CMHC reports 867 housing starts in August marking a 34 percent drop from the previous August. Single detached units fell 20 percent to 599 while multi family starts declined 53 percent to 268. The 1982 recession period is cited to explain the low activity.

Officials speak out on spill remediation plan feasibility
Rich Girard of the ministry of environment told a public meeting on September 13 that remediation sites are widespread and removing contaminated soil to Calgary would be infeasible due to about 1,000 trucks needed. He noted remediation exists even in dirt piles at gas stations.
