Stolen pipe at mine site under investigation

Police report dated Sept 8 1972 notes a pipe valued about 1400 dollars stolen from Canadian Longyer at the mine site. In separate cases Gregory Horsman of Chetwynd was fined 350 for an alcohol offense. Others from Dawson Creek faced elk hunting and false statement charges with fines ranging from 50 to 250 dollars.

Dam tours resume winter hours at Peace River project

Tours of BC Hydro's Peace River power project return to a winter schedule from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday with closures on statutory holidays. Attendance through eight months of 1972 reaches 30,000, and over 100,000 visitors have seen the project since the turnstile began three years ago. The site is about 460 miles north of Vancouver near Dawson Creek, Fort St John, and Chetwynd, featuring the 600-foot high W A C Bennett Dam, the Williston Lake reservoir, BC's largest lake, and power facilities 500 feet underground.

Japanese steel mill mission visits town to inspect coal mine

A Japanese steel mills survey team stayed in town for a week to review coal mine properties including the Sukunka mine. Eight executives from Nissho Iwai Canada Ltd led by Mr. Kitamura and Mr. T Oda of Tokyo joined Mr. Saitoh of Vancouver and Mr. Nambo of Tokyo in the mission.

Maisey plans Chetwynd adult education program

Chetwynd residents may join an Adult Education program with free counseling by H J Maisey Director of Continuing Education at the Hotel on Sept 15 and 16 until 2 pm. Courses include Ceramics Interior Decorating Art Sewing Stretch and Sew and more for those over 15 with parental approval for day students.

Thunderbird Air eyes Chetwynd airstrip expansion

The Chetwynd Chamber of Commerce held a monthly meeting with a quorum and discussed Thunderbird Air's interest in establishing service to Chetwynd. A possible Dawson Creek Prince George route could stop at the local airport, with members urged to show support by writing to M Ritchey in Prince George. Chamber meetings occur the first Wednesday each month.

Tennants Must Register for Municipal Voting in October

Non property owners aiming to vote in the December 9 municipal or regional district elections have an extra day to join the list. With closing day on Saturday September 30, lists stay open until 4 30 p m Monday October 2. Property owners are registered automatically while non owners must register if 19 or older, a Canadian citizen or British subject, and resident for six months. Non property owners may also run for public office if qualified and listed for the past two years.
