Camp closes its doors marking the end of another season at Moberly Lake Youth Centre on August 31. Campers and counsellors pack gear and crafts, reflecting on memories from the warm days and cool lake, with thanks to all who helped and to the facility for hosting.
The Counsellors funded by an Opportunity For Youth grant earned every penny and showed young people helping others. The Director and Board express gratitude to all contributors for a successful summer at Moberly Lake Youth Centre and hope children enjoyed their time there.
Ed Parent arrives as Manager of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Chetwynd with wife Eunice and four children. He previously served two years as Manager in Champion and pledges full cooperation to provide banking service in the community.
An RCMP and Transport investigation continues into a light monoplane crash nine miles southwest of Taylor that killed a Chetwynd area rancher aboard the Oster B aircraft. The wreckage was found Monday afternoon by a Sandy family member after the plane went missing between noon and 4 pm. Earlier, Sandy Sr. narrowly escaped severe injury when a swather ran over a 150 foot embankment and threw him from the machine.
South Peace River voters must wait until September 10 for absentee and hospital ballot counts as Returning Officer Mrs. Bill Esak tallies results from Dawson Creek. Don Phillips leads with 2,845 votes of 6,719 ballots, 42.35 percent, ahead of MILA Don Marshall with 2,819 for 41.95 percent, while John Watkins and Jim McIntyre lag. A recount must be requested within eight days of proclamation, and turnout in Chetwynd reached 66 percent with 665 total ballots, including four at the hospital and nine rejected.
Dave Barrett premier-elect results delayed to Sept 10 as ballots await counting after Labor Day. In Chetwynd polls Phillips Social Progressive Conservative 2203 Watkins NDP 75 McIntyre Liberal 11. Time Plebiscite: 245 yes, 369 no with 39 rejected. Hospital voters absent. confusion and 10 voters opted not to vote on time zone question.
Ten residential lots in the Village of Chetwynd were offered at a public auction on Sept 1, 1972 conducted by village clerk Peter Robertson. Purchasers must build within a year or risk lot reversion. four lots went to Erwin Homes, two to Coalition Mining, three to private buyers, with one unsold at upset price.

The Chetwynd Parks and Exhibition Association and regional officials discussed funding to finish bleachers changerooms and artificial ice at Centennial Arena. They seek an additional 45000 dollars from PRLRD and the village council, to be paired with a 25000 dollar provincial grant, avoiding a mill-rate increase. Arena Commission members were named and applications for arena use invited.
Free health outreach will visit Chetwynd Pest Office on Tuesday Sept 12 and Wednesday Sept 13 from 1 to 4 and 5 to 9 pm. Adults over 18 urged to attend for free TB skin tests chest X rays and surveys for respiratory diseases. Local Health Unit BC Health TB Control and Christmas Seal Society sponsor with Chetwynd Hospital Auxiliary volunteers assisting.
