Willow Creek mine faces resident concerns in Chetwynd area

About 15 Willow Flats residents met with Reform MP Jay Hill to oppose the planned Willow Creek coal project 22 miles east of Chetwynd on the Hart highway. They cite traffic, environmental and wildlife impacts, and noise. Globaltex Coal Mining Corp and Mitsui Matsushima Co Ltd discussed a potential deal for Mitsui to take a substantial interest.

Firefighting Training at Louisiana Pacific Mill Near Chetwynd

A two man Safetyboss crew from Calgary conducted an eight hour course last week for Louisiana Pacific Mill staff and Talisman Energy. The training mixed classroom and hands on drills covering extinguisher use, maintenance, recharge, fire classes, and techniques for workplace blazes. Safetyboss has a history in Kuwait after the Gulf War extinguishing fires in 182 oil wells over 200 days.

Chetwynd Council Orders Pine Valley Woods To Stop Burning

Chetwynd municipal council told Pine Valley Woods Inc to find another disposal method for waste wood. The Ministry of the Environment has ordered all such burning to stop by year end. Wood is burned near the BC Rail yards and chips sent to a Canfor plant in Prince George. Resolution by Councillor Ray Cunningham at the September 9 meeting.
