August carloadings drop amid forest dispute and unions
August carloadings fell sharply from the prior year due to forest industry disputes and a strike notice by two Railway Unions causing an embargo on certain shipments. August loadings totaled 5,967, down 50 percent from 11,853 in August 1974, while eight month total reached 84,474 versus 87,379 previously. Export grain shipments rose, but steel and raw materials like copper ores, timber products, wood chips, pulp, gasoline, chemicals, and piggyback cars also declined.

The Associated Chamber of Commerce of the B C Peace River District seeks funds from Manpower and Immigration for a Local Initiative Programme plan Information Registry Region H. A 30 week survey catalogues tourist resources industrial potential and services to attract funds. nine communities including Atlin Chetwynd Dawson Creek Fort Nelson Fort St. John Hudson Hope Mackenzie Ponce Coupe and Taylor to be surveyed by locals creating 119 work weeks from November 3 1975 to May 3 1976.
