Site One dam enters first full year of work
BC Hydro's 410 million Site One hydro project on the Peace River near Hudson Hope is underway with clearing and reservoir work progress. The 700 MW facility aims to start power generation in 1979. Contracts totaling about 25 million each were awarded for four Francis turbines and four generator units from EMEC and Mitsubishi Canada.

Special meeting on housing issues in Chetwynd division
A village council convened with C.M.H.C. and Provincial Housing officials to address miscommunication over the disposition of the first ten homes in the Crown Sub division. Officials will return to Chetwynd on Sept 4 5 and 6 for further talks with village leaders and residents seeking housing. Sawmill Closure Forces 70 Job Cuts at Canfor Limited
Mr. H C Smith of Canfor Limited Chetwynd Division announces the curtailment of sawmill and planermill operations effective Sept 5 1975 affecting about 70 employees. Pulp mill shutdowns earlier in July halted chip sales, waste handling proved inadequate, and exhausted chip piles drive the suspension. Some departments will remain staffed and affected workers will be notified by foremen.

Guided tours at Peace River power project show underground will
Guided tours continue at the Peace River power project with 8 am to 3 pm winter hours and holidays closed. Pre-arranged group visits contact administrative services supervisor Jack Mitchener at 262 4491. About 155 000 visitors in five years. Tours include descending into the underground powerhouse, viewing a project film, visiting a subterranean chamber, and seeing turbines rated at 310 000 horsepower delivering over 10 million gallons per minute. Visitors may drive across the 1.4 mile W A C Bennett Dam. Nine generating units are in service, providing more than half of BC Hydro’s power. Continued on page 6.
