Open Door Policy Draws Mature Students to Northern Lights College
Registration day for university transfer programmes at Northern Lights College is October 1, with classes starting October 2. More than 65 applications have been received for full and part time transfer courses, and inquiries suggest many more will follow. The college allows mature students without a high school diploma to enroll in university level courses, challenging the belief that only high school graduates are eligible. Corliss Miller, Director of Student Services, invites discussion of full or part time options at 782 5251. Other courses such as Heavy Duty Mechanics, Carpentry and Joinery, and Agriculture are fully subscribed, while Continuing Education brochures will be distributed for classes beginning in September.

Canada adopts metric weather reporting and snow rules
In Ottawa two federal ministers announced that rain and snow will be reported in metric units starting September 1. Rainfall in millimetres and snowfall in centimetres will be used by the Atmosphere Environment Service, with the final conversion for wind and pressure coming next spring. The North East Area Council met in Prince George to form a Health Labour Relations Association uniting thirteen hospitals and three unions.
