CN Ordered to Boost Women in Nontraditional CN Jobs
An independent human rights tribunal ordered Canadian National to implement a broad program to raise women’s employment in nontraditional blue collar roles in its St. Lawrence region until 13 percent of such jobs are held by women. The ruling, based on the ATF complaint, notes CN’s 1981-83 figures show women held only 0.7 percent of nontraditional positions regionwide and 6.11 percent across all CN jobs. The order urges CN to expand women’s opportunities nationwide and cites prior steps toward equal opportunity and harassment policy, while acknowledging claimed lack of qualified female applicants.
