20th Annual Firemen Ball Held at Elks Hall Chetwynd
The 20th annual Firemen Ball occurred Saturday October 20 at the Elks Hall with MC Peter Morrison. Mayor Charlie Lasser delivered greetings from the District Office and praised the firemen for their work. The program noted the new fire truck and honored life members John Lekavy Maurice Barrette Deputy Chief Bill Rand along with honorary life members Bryan King and Rick Lazarko who joined in October 1974. The McNabb Award was presented with Ron Keller receiving it after Brad Smith introduced him and Keller marked the truck with the first scratch of the night.

C S8 Sr Girls Volleyball Team Wins Three Meets in Dawson Creek
The C S8 Sr Girls volleyball squad earned their third tournament victory in Dawson Creek over the weekend. They opened 3-0 in preliminaries by beating Tumbler Ridge 15-2 15-5 North Peace 15-13 15-3 and Spirit River 15-11 15-1 to top the A Pool and face Hudson Hope in the semifinals. A 14-16 15-8 15-7 win advanced them to the final against Grande Prairie’s GP Comp. team.

Chetwynd Ghoulish Affair team plans Halloween events
The CR 12 class at Chetwynd Secondary School organizes Chetwynd’s second annual Ghoulish Affair under Recreation Co-ordinator Christine Meden. Activities include a children’s party 3-12 years 6 to 7 30 pm followed by fireworks 7 30 to 8 pm and a teen dance 13 to 18 from 8 to 10 30 pm at the Recreation Centre with costume judging and Airband. Volunteers donations and suggestions are welcomed ahead of October 29 meeting and October 30 candy drops.

Grad students seek council support for curling rink stage
At the October 16 meeting of the Chetwynd and District Council a delegation from the 1985 Grad class asked for backing to build a stage for the Curling Rink to host Grad ceremonies. West Fraser and Cantor donated lumber. students will contribute labor. The Civic Property Commission was suggested for added support since the stage would belong to the arena and have future use. Mayor Lasser praised the idea.
